One of our favourites places in Chiang Mai is Kad Suan Kaew on Huaykaew Rd. As you will find out in future posting also, then the western part of Chiang Mai absolutely is the part of Chiang Mai that live best in our hearts.
When arrive to the shopping mall Kad Suan Kaew, then it is easy to think: “this is just another shopping mall”. But Kad Suan Kaew is just so much more than that. I have to say that for us, Kad Suan Kaew would have been special anyway. it is the place where we often have lunch, dinner and fantastic good coffee time in one of the many good cafe’s there.
If walk past the many good shops and continue into the heart of the building and you can meet younger people that make their training for creative performance in form of theatre and dance. There is a also a good chance to see youngster rolling full power on “Skatemax”, or maybe you won’t see a living soul. It is some of the charm by Kad Suan Kaew.
This time we had a wonderful lunch in “Food factory” 3 courses and 2 soda for total 120 Bath (3,5 USD). I think that we can agree that not many places in this world can we get good and tasty food for this kind of money. For the soda part, then we were super lucky that we got “buy one – get two”.
Continue further into this fantastic building and you will find a wonderful courtyard with a Naga and a small temple (House temple for the whole building). Future on you will find the nice hotel “Lotus Baan Suan Kaew” and “Baan DinKi” and a wonderful convention center in traditional Lanna style. Also a good fitness center is one the facilities you will meet on this way.
When finish in Kad Suan Kaew complex then it is good to leave the building from the back side where the hotels are, instead of walking om Huaykaew Rd, where the traffic can be heavy. Take some of the small Soi in direction of the Doi Suthep (the mountain) and you will find yourself in a environment that is more close to a village then to a bigger town.
We did a small stop in “Mango Tango” and it was a good stop. For us, nothing is much better than a fresh sweet yellow mango…..:)
